Mr. Richard Hoffmann
Los Angeles 49, California
Dear Mr. Hoffmann:
In receipt of your letter dated Januar 3, I am forwarding to you
enclosed a copy of my letter to the engraver, Golden West Music Press,
1313 North Highland Avenue, Los Angeles, for Mr. Schoenberg's reference.
enclosed a copy of my letter to the engraver, Golden West Music Press,

Finally we settled all the points which should be in the contract;
however, if I do not see the engraved sample page, and I know the definite
cost for engraving the whole score, I certainly cannot sign a contract
with Mr. Schoenberg. I made so many concessions to Mr. Schoenberg that I
must be completely aware of the cost before I can sign a contract. From
the enclosed letter, you will notice that I am now eagerly waiting for
the sample page, and for the total cost of the complete engraving of the
score, because I am leaving for Europe in two weeks time. As soon as I
receive this information from the Golden West Music Press, I will let
him know if he should go ahead with the engraving and, at that time, would
you please ask Mr. Schoenberg's lawyer to draw up a contract, because you
cannot expect me to continue to correspond with you in the same way as we
did during the past four months, namely, I make suggestions and then you,
respectively Mr. Schoenberg, are asking for concessions; therefore, I
believe it is of mutual benefit if you go ahead and make the contract, and
I will show my lawyer your suggestions this time.

Going back and forth in our correspondence during the past few
months will make you realize that my request is completely justified,
and in order not to delay the engraving, which I naturally cannot do before
the contract has been signed by Mr. Schoenberg and by me, I would suggest
that Mr. Schoenberg's lawyer is sending me his suggestions for the con-
tract during the next two weeks, so that I can act accordingly.
